Hi! I’m Alissa Rumsey, a Dietitian Business Coach
(pronouns she/her/hers)
I'm a registered dietitian, certified intuitive eating counselor, author, business coach, and the founder of The Liberated Clinician, a training and mentorship platform for dietitians and clinicians who want to build sustainable, values-aligned private practices without burning out or selling out.
With 18 years of experience in clinical nutrition, eating disorder care, and entrepreneurship, I help clinicians turn their expertise into thriving businesses through simple systems, ethical marketing, and client-centered care.
The Liberated Clinician bridges the gap between clinical skills and business confidence, showing you how to create purpose-driven practices that support both your clients and your own well-being.
My approach is rooted in weight-inclusive, trauma-informed care and a deep belief that dietitians and clinicians shouldn’t have to choose between integrity and income. Through courses, workshops, and coaching, I have helped hundreds of clinicians start, grow, and streamline their private practices.
I am also the author of Unapologetic Eating and the founder of Rumsey Nutrition Consulting, where I have spent over a decade supporting clients with a compassionate, non-diet approach to health and nutrition.
I love working with other health professionals to challenge the 'status quo' in nutrition care and business. Let's reframe what is possible as clinicians – and do it together.
My mission at The Liberated Clinician is to help dietitians and clinicians build businesses that feel freeing, not draining.
Redefine and expand what’s possible for yourself as both a business owner and a clinician.
I know first-hand how challenging entrepreneurship can be.
I've been a dietitian for 18 years, but I never received any training in business or entrepreneurship during my schooling. When I left my clinical nutrition hospital job in early 2015 to start my own business, I faced a HUGE learning curve.
I felt overwhelmed, lonely, and confused, and I questioned if this was the right path. I had so many imposter feelings, a lack of confidence in my business skills, and a never-ending (NEVER ENDING) to-do list. I regularly thought: “Should I just go back to what I was doing before?”
It was (and still can be!) a lot.
Over the next several years, as I built my virtual practice, I learned all about building an online business, marketing, content creation, SEO, website building, blogging - you name it! Other dietitians and clinicians began reaching out and asking me for support.
So in 2017, I hosted the first-ever Dietitian Entrepreneur Mastermind Retreat, an in-person workshop that brought together clinicians from around the country to learn business skills, network, and take the time to work on their business.
As I hosted a dozen of these in-person workshops with over a hundred dietitians and clinicians from across the US (and even the UK!), I realized that I loved working with other health professionals to grow their business skills and build successful practices that align with their values and their lives.
In 2021, The Liberated Clinician was born!
My goal is to help you learn new ways to do business and support your clients, while getting support and feedback from someone who really gets it.
Meet The Rest OF
My Team
Jasmine Hormati, MS, RD, CDN (she/her)
Facilitator & Business Coach
Jasmine is a registered dietitian, Certified Intuitive Eating Counselor, private practice owner, and facilitator and business coach at The Liberated Clinician. She is the founder of Mendinground Nutrition, an insurance-based group private practice in New York City that specializes in eating disorders, chronic dieting recovery, and chronic disease management (i.e. diabetes, GI, PCOS, high cholesterol).
She frequently collaborates with Alissa: she is the co-creator of the Insurance Credentialing and Billing Course for RDs, the co-facilitator of The Liberated Clinician business coaching program, and provides one-on-one business coaching and insurance credentialing and billing support.
What started as figuring it out for herself turned into a passion for helping other clinicians do the same - without the overwhelm, confusion, or burnout that so often comes with taking insurance and managing the backend of a practice. She has expertise in insurance credentialing, billing systems, and the operational side of running a sustainable business.
Through The Liberated Clinician, Jasmine teaches dietitians how to set up streamlined systems, understand their numbers, reduce admin overload, and create practices that are both financially predictable and operationally smooth. Her approach blends real-world experience, practical systems, and business strategy so clinicians can spend less time chasing claims and more time doing the work they love.
Jasmine earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Conservation and Resource Studies from the University of California, Berkeley and her Master of Science in Nutrition and Public Health from Teachers College, Columbia University. In her free time, she enjoys catching a Broadway show, baking delicious desserts, and spending time with her dog and partner.
