Hi! I’m Alissa Rumsey, a Dietitian Business Coach
(pronouns she/her/hers)
I'm a registered dietitian, certified intuitive eating counselor, author, business coach, and the founder of The Liberated Clinician, a training and mentorship platform for dietitians and clinicians who want to build sustainable, values-aligned private practices without burning out or selling out.
With over 15 years of experience in clinical nutrition, eating disorder care, and entrepreneurship, I help clinicians turn their expertise into thriving businesses through simple systems, ethical marketing, and client-centered care.
The Liberated Clinician bridges the gap between clinical skills and business confidence, showing you how to create purpose-driven practices that support both your clients and your own well-being.
My approach is rooted in weight-inclusive, trauma-informed care and a deep belief that dietitians and clinicians shouldn’t have to choose between integrity and income. Through courses, workshops, and coaching, I have helped hundreds of clinicians start, grow, and streamline their private practices.
I am also the author of Unapologetic Eating and the founder of Rumsey Nutrition Consulting, where I have spent over a decade supporting clients with a compassionate, non-diet approach to health and nutrition.
I love to work with other health professionals so that we can challenge the 'status quo' in nutrition care and in business. Let's reframe what is possible as clinicians – and do it together.
My mission at The Liberated Clinician is to help dietitians and clinicians build businesses that feel freeing, not draining.
Redefine and expand what’s possible for yourself as both a business owner and a clinician.
I know first-hand how challenging entreprenurship can be.
As a dietitian for over 16 years, who built a business from scratch and transitioned from a weight-centric approach to a weight-inclusive approach all within a year and a half, I know first-hand how challenging entrepreneurship can be.
Especially when you’re swimming against the tide when it comes to cultural beliefs about body size, weight, nutrition, and health.
And even more so when you are part of a culture and profession that is all about you getting it “right” all the time.
Since I started my business over nine years ago I've felt overwhelmed, lonely, confused, and questioning if this was the right path.
I've felt "imposter syndrome", had confidence issues, a never-ending (NEVER ENDING) to-do list, and regularly have thought: “Should I just go back to what I was doing before?”.
It. Was (and can be!). A. lot.
My goal is to help you learn new ways to do business and support your clients, while getting support and feedback from someone who really get it.

As someone who holds a lot of privilege in this world, I am committed to redistributing the power that was given to me unjustly in a variety of ways:
- I offer a variety of free and low-cost options for people to learn from me, including my email newsletter Practice, Liberated, my free resources and downloads, my Instagram, podcast interviews, my blog (coming soon!), and regular workshops and events.

- I participate in accountability groups with other colleagues to continue to deepen my commitment to anti-oppression, growth, and change.
- I pay all my contractors a minimum of $30 per hour and prioritize the hiring of people with non-dominant identities.
- I prioritize paying for goods and services from BIPOC-owned businesses.
- As of 2021, I have pledged not to speak at events or on podcasts where the speakers are or have been disproportionately white.
- I am committed to the lifelong process of unlearning and relearning, to making mistakes, to naming and uncovering my implicit biases, to constantly strive to do better. I value feedback, critique, information sharing, and ‘calling in. I commit to not getting defensive and striving to take time to process any feedback, learn from it, and integrate it into my business and my life (h/t to Kelly Diels for this language and the bullet above).
